Magnesium may be limiting rumen function if it is not available in sufficient quantity to support rumen bacteria in the digestion of cellulose. Make sure you provide enough. Water supplementation of soluble magnesium is the least cost and most effective way of providing supplemental magnesium.

Magnesium is also important as an antistress element, it has a calming effect and used during weaning and transport to reduce stress.
